Fabulous. The suddenly switch of focus to the boys and their possible intentions!

interesting framing: what a surprise with the two persons suddenly coming out from the left.
strange incident with the 5 youngsters stopping to change cource… a fine short novel with many stories, all in under one minute.

This is one of my favourite lumières ever. I started by wishing that the colours were richer and the image sharper, more contrasty. The humanity of it blew all that away. As so often with great lumières, it succeeds in spite of (because of?) the mundanity of its subject and photography. Three things about it that I love: the silence of the bagpipes; the way we get to spy on people’s reactions (the men all look at him, the women all ignore him); the lads, obviously, and the tension of their passing, checking him out, and return for the end. I could keep watching again and again - and I’m bookingmarking it in my blog’s sidebar.
